WHY SHOULD DICTATORS
HAVE A FORUM?
HOW CAN I HELP? (Click here)

The Cambridge Coalition for a Free Malaysia has collected 3000 signatures from people who oppose giving a free platform to Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

We will submit a letter of protest to the University Offices at Trinity Lane, Cambridge, later today. We urge the University of Cambridge to defend the reputation by denying Dr Mahathir Mohamad a free rein in villifying his opponents

Please do not allow the University of Cambridge to be a platform for dictators!

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, is responsible for the unjust and unfair jailing of his former deputy, Mr. Anwar Ibrahim, and Anwar's adopted brother Mr. Sukma Darmawan, after a show trial of unusual and blatant bias.  (rest of article)

Dr. Munawar Anees' Story

Dr. Munawar Anees was one of Anwar's friends who was unjustly treated by Dr. Mahathir. This is his story :

A large inscription on the rotunda of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington -- "I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny upon the mind of man" -- impressed me deeply on my first visit to the United States as a student nearly a quarter of a century ago. Recently, with the tears of experience welling in my eyes, I revisited that site. My arbitrary arrest and torture in Malaysia had engraved Jefferson's inscription on my heart. (rest of article)

Mahathir faces isolation

Aug 29: He has been feted as a visionary leader of a progressive and modern Islamic country. Indeed, the world recognises him as a Third World spokesperson. Thus, when the Islamic Society of North America said that he is no longer wanted to address its conference, that must have hurt real bad. (rest of article)

Malaysian Students Disgrace Cambridge

If the Cambridge University Malaysia Society, organisers of the "Malaysia in the New Millennium" conference had really cared about the substance of the topic, they would not have invited as keynote speaker, the person who has done the most to damage the country's future prospects. Don't forget greed and self-interest

Aug 29, 2000 : I agree totally with the observation of Ariani Rustam (Naivete of Malaysian students, Aug 26-27) that it is the naivete of some of our student and youth leaders that has trapped them to be unwitting, pliable tools of powerful political interests backed by the corporate financial power of crony companies. But we should never ignore the power of greed and self-interest, too, in motivating them. (rest of article)
